Privacy Policy

What we collect about you, why we need it, who we have to share it with, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Last updated 8 September 2026

Forwarding a package internationally means handling personal information: where you live, what you bought, what it cost and, for customs, who you are. This policy explains exactly what SurShipp does with it. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.

1. Who this policy covers

It covers everyone who uses surshipp.com, holds a SurShipp account, contacts us, or has goods handled by us. SurShipp, of Zwartenhovenbrugstraat 235, Paramaribo, Suriname, is responsible for the information described here.

2. What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details — name, email address, telephone and WhatsApp number, password (stored only as a cryptographic hash, never in readable form).
  • Addresses — your delivery and collection addresses in Suriname.
  • Shipment details — pre-alerts, tracking numbers, merchant names, descriptions of contents and declared values.
  • Personal shopper requests — product links, sizes, colours and any note you add.
  • Identification and customs documents — where Surinamese customs requires proof of identity or a commercial invoice to clear your goods.
  • Correspondence — support tickets, claims and the messages and attachments in them.

Information we create

  • Package records — weights, dimensions, photographs taken at intake, status history and timestamps.
  • Financial records — invoices, payment references and payment status. We do not hold your card number; where a payment provider is used, your card details are entered on their systems, not ours.
  • Account activity — sign-in times, the IP address and browser used, and an audit record of actions taken on your account by our staff.

3. Why we use it

  • To provide the service you asked for — matching arriving packages to you, quoting, shipping, invoicing, and telling you what is happening. This is the performance of our contract with you.
  • To meet legal obligations — customs declarations, import documentation, tax and accounting records, and airline and maritime security requirements.
  • To keep the service safe and honest — verifying who is collecting goods, investigating claims, preventing fraud and misuse of forwarding addresses.
  • To support you — answering your questions and resolving disputes, which sometimes means looking at the history of your account.
  • To improve what we do — understanding aggregate volumes and lane performance so we can price and staff sensibly.

We send service messages — arrival notices, invoices, status changes — because they are part of the service. Marketing messages, if we ever send them, are separate, and you can turn them off in your notification preferences without losing the service ones.

4. Who we share it with

We share only what each recipient needs, and only with:

  • Customs and government authorities in Suriname and in the country of export, where the law requires a declaration about you or your goods.
  • Airlines, shipping lines, couriers and handling agents who carry your goods — typically the consignee name, address, contact number and a description of contents.
  • Payment providers and our bank, to take and reconcile payment.
  • Retailers, where you asked us to buy something on your behalf.
  • Our technology suppliers — hosting, database, file storage and email delivery — who process data on our instructions and may not use it for anything else.
  • Professional advisers, insurers and, if ever necessary, courts, where we must establish or defend a legal claim.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not pass it to data brokers or advertising networks.

5. Where your data goes

Our service is international by nature. Information about a shipment necessarily reaches the country the goods are in — the United States, the Netherlands or China — as well as Suriname. Our systems are hosted on servers we control, and access is limited to staff who need it for their role.

6. How long we keep it

  • Account details — while your account is open, and then for as long as we may still need them for a dispute or a legal claim.
  • Shipment, customs and financial records — for the period Surinamese customs and tax law requires us to keep import and accounting records.
  • Intake photographs — for at least as long as a claim about that package could still be made; they are the evidence in a damage dispute.
  • Support messages and claims — for as long as needed to resolve them and to handle any follow-up.
  • Sign-in and audit records — for a limited period, for security investigation.

When a retention period ends we delete the information or anonymise it so it can no longer be linked to you.

7. How we protect it

  • Traffic to and from our site is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
  • Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. Nobody at SurShipp can read your password, and we will never ask you for it.
  • Staff access is limited by role: warehouse staff cannot see invoices or payment records, and every administrative action is logged against the person who took it.
  • Uploaded documents and package photographs are stored privately and served only to people entitled to see them.
  • Public package tracking shows the journey and status only — never a name, address, telephone number, value or invoice.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your personal information in a way likely to harm you, we will tell you and the relevant authority as quickly as we can, with what we know and what we are doing about it.

8. Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • Show you the personal information we hold about you. Most of it is already visible in your account.
  • Correct anything inaccurate — you can edit your own profile and addresses at any time.
  • Delete your account and the information we are not legally required to keep. Customs, tax and accounting records must remain for their statutory period, and we cannot delete those on request.
  • Stop sending you marketing, or restrict how we use your information while a dispute about it is resolved.
  • Give you a copy of the details you provided, in a portable format.

Write to info@surshipp.com. We may need to confirm who you are before we act, so that nobody else can make these requests about you.

9. Cookies and tracking

We use a small number of cookies, and only ones the site needs to work:

  • A session cookie that keeps you signed in. It is HTTP-only, so page scripts cannot read it, and it is cleared when you sign out.
  • Security cookies that protect forms against cross-site request forgery.

We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site trackers or third-party analytics that profile you. Blocking essential cookies will stop you from signing in.

10. Children

SurShipp accounts are for adults. We do not knowingly create accounts for under-18s, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has an account with us, tell us and we will remove it.

11. Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change, with a new date at the top. Where a change materially affects how we use information about you, we will tell you by email or in your account rather than relying on you noticing.

12. Contacting us

Questions, requests and complaints about privacy go to info@surshipp.com, or by post to Zwartenhovenbrugstraat 235, Paramaribo, Suriname, or by telephone on +597 860-8047. If we cannot resolve your concern, you may complain to the relevant supervisory authority in Suriname.

This policy sits alongside our Terms & Conditions.
